Difference in quality

It is generally accepted that ordering products directly from the manufacturer is usually cheaper. It is no different in the case of stretch film, although you can often find this product at an identical or even lower price from intermediaries. However, it is not the same product!

The polyethylene used for film production should have the right properties, and above all, density. The resin should have the right viscosity and be carefully distributed during the production process. The low price of stretch film often means low quality of the raw material and negligence in production quality, which ultimately translates into a cheap product that has little in common with the features of decent quality film.

As a rule, this type of stretch film is sold at very reduced prices. It can be easily found on the shelves of some supermarkets.

Division of stretch film according to type

Manual

Packing is done manually using hand dispensers or simply hands. This type of stretche is most often found in smaller companies or companies where the packages are not the size of a pallet, e.g. when shipping in most e-commerce stores.

  • Thickness ± 20 microns

  • Pre-stretch - 75% ± 100% - occasionally up to 140%

  • Width - usually 450 ± 500 [mm]

Machine

A characteristic feature of machine stretch films is the ability to return to their original shape .

  • Pre-stretch - 190% ± 240%

Black stretch film

Black stretch film is often used to secure goods whose identity we want to hide from view for various reasons. These may be goods that are particularly valuable and susceptible to theft, or, for example, those requiring discretion, such as medicines for illnesses. This type of film is slightly more stretchable, up to 150%, and has an internal adhesive layer that allows for excellent load stabilization.

Transparent stretch film

Transparent stretch makes it much easier to store and wrap goods in a warehouse, as you can see the contents of the goods secured on the pallet.

Stretch mini wrap

Mini wrap is simply a smaller-width stretch wrap that can be applied to a dispenser operated with one hand. It is practical for wrapping smaller packages, which make up a large percentage of all e-commerce shipments.

Film produced by blowing

This is the so-called "blown" foil , which allows securing loads with sharp or protruding edges. It stretches in two dimensions.

Stretch Film and Ecological Responsibility

Ecological stretch film is a film made from at least 80% recycled material.

It is made from a raw material called LDPE , or low-density polyethylene.

When exposed to constant sunlight, this plastic produces significant amounts of two greenhouse gases: methane and ethylene. Because of its lower density, LDPE decomposes more easily than other plastics.

When this happens, the surface area of LDPE materials increases. As surface area increases and time passes, the production of gases from virgin plastics like LDPE also increases. As a result, LDPE emits greenhouse gases at a more unsustainable rate than other plastics.

It follows from the above that an extremely important ecological issue is its recovery from the environment. Unfortunately, according to the EPA , the recycling level for the USA is only 5.7%. Aware of the threat, we therefore appeal for responsible waste management and ensuring that stretch film is recycled, for which it is perfectly suited.

Chemical properties

  • Excellent resistance (impact and reactivity) to diluted and concentrated acids, alcohols, bases and esters

  • Good resistance (low impact and very low reactivity) to aldehydes, ketones and vegetable oils

  • Limited resistance to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils and oxidants. Moderate impact and significant chemical reactivity - suitable for short-term use only.

  • Not recommended for use with halogenated hydrocarbons due to poor resistance.

Physical properties

  • Temperature resistance: up to 65°C - permanently resistant, up to 90°C - short-term resistant

  • Density range: 917 - 930 kg/m 3

Stretch - foil for wrapping parcels

Due to its flexibility and layered arrangement, stretch film also acts as a kind of seal for the shipment. It is impossible to unpack the shipment and wrap it again without damaging the film. Someone would have to be very determined to even attempt it. Any cuts or tears in the film clearly suggest that the shipment has been repacked or unpacked and constitute grounds for a potential complaint if, for example, it turns out that an element is missing or the quantity on the pallet does not match.

Stretch film can be equipped with a UV protective coating, which allows goods to be stored outdoors.
