Self-adhesive tapes

(Products: 16)

Classification of adhesive tapes based on the adhesive used

Self-adhesive tapes for packing parcels - features

Packing tape is the most popular way to secure a package before final shipping. In this respect, it has replaced packing string, which until recently was a requirement at Poczta Polska. It prevents the package from leaking and is a sign that it has not been repacked en route. Especially if it is tape with a company print.

Our offer can be broadly divided into self-adhesive tapes of various types and strapping tapes , which are used to secure loads, e.g. on a pallet.

The main differentiator between adhesive tapes is the type of adhesive that is used. This determines what the tape can be used for.

Solvent adhesive tapes

The strongest of adhesives, produced on the basis of natural rubber. Hence the often encountered interchangeable name rubber tapes . This is a universal solution when it comes to shipping parcels due to its resistance to low temperatures. This is particularly important in the case of packing for shipping goods that are sensitive to breakage, e.g. glass or porcelain.

  • This glue has a characteristic honey color.

  • Questions on forums about "removing glue from packaging" usually concern Solvent glue.

  • Solvent adhesive tapes are also slightly more expensive than the others.

  • It is also available under the less popular name Vibac.

Acrylic adhesive based tapes

This is the cheapest glue on this list. It contains water, so it is not recommended for packing parcels that are exposed to low temperatures. Packages stored in a cold store, transported in winter or to regions with low temperatures glued with such tape may leak and as a result the contents may spill and be damaged. The image losses are also not to be underestimated - there is little chance that the customer will order the goods again after receiving such a parcel.

  • This glue is easily removable, and the tape coated with it can be peeled off more easily. This is not a defect, but a feature that may be desirable in special cases. Painter's tapes are a good example.

  • This glue is transparent in color. It is transparent.

  • Tapes based on this glue are also among the cheapest.

Hot Melt Adhesive Tapes

This is a tape with a synthetic glue, melting depending on the temperature. The main advantage of the tape covered with it is the price to quality ratio. This glue is much more durable than acrylic, and much cheaper than Solvent.

Environmental factors

The external environment is a major factor in the adhesion of adhesives. All adhesive and primer combinations react differently to the same environmental conditions. Too high a temperature and the adhesive can break down - too low and it becomes brittle. Moisture or exposure to UV light can cause the adhesive to stop working. Chemical or solvent exposure can completely destroy the adhesion of some adhesives. Therefore, it is common to consider four major environmental factors that should be considered when selecting an adhesive tape:

  • Indoor or outdoor use

  • Operating temperature

  • Exposure to moisture or UV radiation

  • Chemical, solvent or degassing reactions

An outgassing reaction is the release of a gas that has been dissolved, trapped, frozen, or absorbed by a material, such as the glue on adhesive tape.

Operating temperature

If the ambient temperature of the adhesive tape is difficult to predict, the following guidelines can be followed:

  • From -6°C to 65°C - rubber tapes

  • From -18°C to 200°C - acrylic tapes

  • From -30°C to 260°C - silicone tapes

Subsoil

A flat surface is ideal for bonding, but you often have to contend with the stresses associated with bonding along corners and bulges, curves or concave angles. These stresses can cause the tape to peel away from the surface, so it is important to take this into account when choosing the right adhesive and tape type.

The presence of surface contaminants can disrupt the bond between the adhesive and the substrate. It is important that the substrate is clean and dry, free from contaminants such as plasticizers, dirt, oils, chemicals and water.

High surface energy (polar)

These include:

  • Steel

  • Aluminum

  • Copper

  • Zinc

  • Polycarbonate

  • ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)

  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride)

Low surface energy (non-polar)

These include:

  • Rubber

  • Polyethylene (PE)

  • Polypropylene (PP)

  • Powder coatings

  • Silicon

  • Teflon

Surface tension and moisture level

Polar substrates are easy to bond, while non-polar substrates present a challenge for the adhesive.

Packing tape colors

  • Paper - maybe not exactly a type by color, but more by material, but due to its characteristic appearance and the possibility of printing, it also fits into the set. Paper tapes are aesthetic. You can use them to secure a gift wrapped in wrapping paper without fear of making a tactlessness. Their advantage is the ease with which they are handled both during packing and unpacking.

  • Transparent

  • Brown - mainly based on acrylic adhesives. Classic color of packing tape.

  • Silver - the famous duct tape known from American films and survival computer games. However, it is not strictly "American tape", because this term covers Tuff-Tape tape used instead of mesh, non-woven fabric, paper tape, paper tape with aluminum insert to connect plasterboards. Silver adhesive tape is an ideal solution for a wide range of interior and exterior works around the house, thanks to its versatile performance and durability. It is an ideal temporary solution for quick repairs in emergency situations. Thanks to its reinforced construction protecting against all weather conditions, it is ideal for packing and tying shipments in heavy-duty conditions.

Blue - so-called "freezers" resistant to frost, especially popular with producers of frozen foods, whose packages should not be stored at any other temperature than minus.

Black - used for aesthetic reasons or to visually help you identify where, for example, cables attached to the stage run.

With print - any pattern can be applied to the tapes, which is often used for branding a store or manufacturer. A package wrapped with tape with the supplier's logo printed on it gains a kind of seal that protects it from repacking.

Warning - tapes with printed classic warning patterns such as black and yellow stripes or any messages such as "do not throw, "beware of glass". They help to sensitize couriers to treat the package with special care.
